My boyfriend gifted me with this modern classic for my 24th birthday, citing that he predicted I’d enjoy it… And he was right! The Alchemist easily joined my collection of favorites after my first read. No wonder it has been translated into nearly 80 languages and sold over a million copies worldwide.
I believe that Amazon.com’s description beautifully and accurately captures the essence of this novel:
“Paulo Coelho’s masterpiece tells the magical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure as extravagant as any ever found. The story of the treasures Santiago finds along the way teaches us, as only a few stories can, about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, learning to read the omens strewn along life’s path, and, above all, following our dreams.”
I’m a person who’s big on “vibes” and trusting my gut instincts. I also believe in trusting the process and enjoying the journey of life, as opposed to. These are all things that compose my values and core beliefs, and guide my actions on a daily basis. Thus, you can probably imagine why I enjoyed this book so!
I gave it a 5/5 for readability because it’s fairly short, splattered with symbolic images throughout, and is divided into two parts, with five sections total.
If you’re looking for an adventure read loaded with profound messages that will enhance your outlook on life, then this book may be for you.
